Kumquats and such

On our "snow day," Reagan's school was closed and so was my office, so we decided to do a project. I downloaded a stencil from the internet, traced it onto sturdy paper, and gathered some additional supplies. Then we decorated shamrocks in honor of St. Patty's Day! Our supplies: green paint, green crayon, green fabric scraps cut into various shapes, green puffballs, green beads, green plastic coins, and finally green rice & noodles. Yeah, we had green pretty well covered;) Reagan loves using glue (especially the glue stick) and had a blast decorating. Last week we had some fun with Pinterest activities! After the homemade fruit snacks, we decided to make SLIME! Talk about a fun sensory project for toddlers. I found the "pin" courtesy of my friend, Kelley, and knew we had to put it on our list of things to do. Here's the link so the rest of you can join the fun...and here's our version: Step 1: Assemble ingredients (pretty easy, eh?!). The original post actually says you're supposed to use clear glue, but after three stores, we decided that green gel would just have to suffice. The Sta-Flo is a liquid starch that can be found at the grocery store. We also used food coloring (not pictured). Step 2: Pour contents of both glue bottles into a large bowl. On one of Jessica's last days in Virginia, she was kind enough to watch Reagan while I went to work. I had left the car for them on that particular day, and when they came to pick me up, they had supplies to make bouncy balls! This is something Jessica and I did in grade school, and it's a lot of fun. You need one box of Borax laundry detergent, a bottle of Elmer's glue, and some food coloring. Step 1: Pour about 1/2 cup of Borax into a cup or bowl. Step 2: Add a few droplets of food coloring into each container. Step 3: With a small amount of the Borax in your hand, squirt some glue onto the pile and cover it with laundry powder. Start to roll it into a ball.  Step 4: Continue adding glue and Borax until the ball becomes the size you would like. Step 5: Play with the bouncy balls!  This is a fun project that you can do with little ones. They like to mix the colors into the Borax and play with the balls. As most of you know, I love to scrapbook and do other crafts.  Recently, I've started painting in my free evenings after Reagan goes to sleep.  Here are a few projects I've completed in the past month: This idea was stolen from a gift Reagan received shortly after she was born.  I made one for Mason and his girlfriend, McKinley for their first birthdays. These are stencils with a basic background that I made for Max (his name is cut out, also using a stencil, and glued on to the canvas). New bathroom painting.  The flowers are stenciled on and the butterflies are attached with wire through the canvas.

As a long time technology-phobic gal, I snubbed my nose at digital cameras and online photo sites.  However, unlike my dear husband, I know when to admit (publicly in the case) when I'm wrong.  Digital photography is so much easier than film!  I'm sure many of you were like me when it came to film...take pictures, use up roll, replace with new roll, forget to develop photos until 3 year later when pictures are no longer of interest, am I right? Well, I'm no longer afraid my friends...I joined the ranks of the digital photographers a couple years ago and started using Shutterfly , an online all-encompassing photography, card, etc. site.  No more wasted rolls of film and undeveloped photos, I can upload my pictures and get prints (or other products) in no time at all.  And it's incredibly easy for those of us who do not consider ourselves computer savvy. I have purchased prints, enlargements, photobooks, calendars , and birth announcements .  Each and eve...

How cute is this?!  My friend Paige (who's expecting - obviously) is one of the most creative people I've ever met.  She made these costumes for herself and her husband, Andy.  I told her to contact one of the Halloween costume companies and sell them the idea!  Absolutely hilarious.
