San Francisco - Part 5

Image
After a delicious breakfast, we spent the day wandering the city. We came across this neat exhibit (to the left and below). We each sat inside one of the "shells" and with just a whisper, you could hear exactly what the other was saying. It was really neat.  We found ourselves down by the Ferry Building again and happened upon the most amazing outdoor market! There was even a tent with a live cooking class going on!  After exploring, we hopped on a street car and headed to Fisherman's Wharf. We must have watched these sea lions for 30 minutes! They were so loud and funny! And then we saw this...hey, at least he was honest! We took the cable car back up the hill to our hotel and hit up the happy hour on the 12th floor again. That night, we headed out in search of ramen and found a great place. Then we went to the movies:)

While in San Francisco, I never really adjusted to the time difference. That could have been because I'm typically a morning person anyway, or because I was getting up to pump, or maybe I just wanted to drive Jason a little crazy...whatever the reason, on our second morning in the city, I was bright eyed and bushy tailed at 5:45. Somehow, I managed to talk Jason into exploring the city on a bit of a photography walkabout:)   I had NO idea how HILLY San Francisco really is!!! It's insane. Seriously. This was the start of our walk. Straight up from our hotel. Parking like this CANNOT be good for vehicles. The Fairmont - the hotel from The Rock! This was our first cable car sighting!   On the left: I think this is the steepest one we saw. Check out that portion at the top of the pic! On the right: You know a hill is too steep when you have to put stairs into the sidewalk. Just saying... We wandered through the hills and found our wa...

Our second dinner in San Francisco was definitely in the top 5 meals of our lives...Coqueta - a Michael Chiarello restaurant. I can't recall the specifics, but we practically sat in the kitchen and absolutely had a blast. Even got to watch a chef debone an entire pig. Here are some iPhone shots of the deliciousness!

San Francisco - Part 2

On a whim, we decided to spend our first full day of vacation in Napa Valley! I was browsing through a travel guide in the hotel room, contacted a few people to discuss options, and promptly discarded all advice. We instead, opted for the ferry to Vallejo and the bus up to wine country. By the time we decided this, we had about 25 minutes to get to the Ferry Building, so we quickly walked through the city (where we saw the largest pigeons EVER!). We arrived at the Ferry Building, and while Jason attempted to buy tickets, I was overwhelmed at the amazing stores inside...mounds of artisanal cheeses, fresh baked bread, flowers, produce, meat...it was overwhelming! Seriously, this place put Eastern Market to shame! Within a few minutes of arriving at the bay, Jason had tickets in hand and we were boarding the ferry. It was an absolutely gorgeous day and we enjoyed the entire ride on the back deck of the boat. That's the Bay Bridge in the background Quick...
