Oak Island Getaway - Wrap Up
On Friday, the weather was a bit overcast and perfect for staying inside and making a big breakfast! Reagan helped Grandpa cook lots of great food and we all enjoyed a lazy morning. After that, we took the dogs to run along the beach. They had a blast! Of course we had to give them both a bath when we returned to the house (which they did not enjoy nearly as much). After a brief rest, we loaded up the van and drove to Southport to do a bit of shopping and wandering around. It is a cute little place and they had a great Christmas shop. We headed back to Oak Island after a short trip and picked up some corn on the cob to have with our BBQ chicken and tater tots.
The following morning, Reagan and I headed out for a short jog and found ourselves out on the beach once again. It was still overcast and perfect for running...and for feeding the birds. We saw some fishermen tossing fish heads and other bait into the air while every imaginable sea bird flocked to the area. A little further down the beach, we found a dead horseshoe crab, a couple dead blue crabs, and 3 dead sand sharks! As soon as we got back to the house, we grabbed a bite to eat and then gathered up Grandma and Grandpa to show them the dead shark. It was another fun day to hit the beach without actually going in the water.
On Saturday evening, (sadly our last night at the beach), we went out to eat at The Turtle Island restaurant. For me, the highlight of the meal was when an 18-month old girl came over to Reagan and they actually signed (using baby sign language) to one another! We all had great meals (steamed clams, flounder stuffed with crab, filet with bearnaise sauce). And for the 4th or 5th time, we stopped at Dairy Queen for dessert:)
On Sunday morning, after doing our portion of the clean-up, Reagan, Grandpa and I went down to the beach one last time. It was sad to leave, but we had a fantastic time and will cherish the memories. Huge thanks to Betty and Gray for letting us use their house for the week! We love you guys!
