Run for the Warriors
On Saturday, 14 May, an organization called Hope for the Warriors hosted the 6th annual Run for the Warriors event. This consisted of a half marathon, 10k, 5k, and 1 mile fun run/walk around Jacksonville, NC. The event was well run (no pun intended) and my friend Alexis Steele headed up the volunteers who did a phenomenal job. The course was well mapped and marked and there were plenty of aid stations with water, Gatorade, and Jolly Ranchers! At 0700, a group of wounded warriors and other motivators started the half marathon. Following at 0740, the 10k runners took off. And 10 minutes after that, the 5k group went. I have no idea when the 1 mile run/walk happened, but I'm sure it went off seamlessly.
My friend, Michelle Sullivan, and I did several 5ks last year when our husbands were deployed and had a blast. This year, as the fellas are gone again, we decided to start with a bang, so we opted for the 10k. I pushed Reagan in the Bob and the first 3 miles seemed easy enough. Michelle helped me with the stroller duties from mile 3-6, sometimes taking it by herself, and other times we each had a hand on one side so we could use our other arm to keep pace. It's amazing how much losing your arm swing affects your breathing! There were so many people out there that the race passed by quickly and we found ourselves at the finish line in just under 1 hour.
Some friends from 1/9, the Christmas family, participated in the 5k and still had a track meet to go to in the afternoon! They do lots of races in the local area and are a great example for other families.

My dear friend, Maureen Donlon, was amazing in the half marathon! She ran with a friend and once finished promptly declared herself the winner of he 8-months-after-having-a-baby category winner!

Happy family together again after a long deployment:)
All in all, I'd say everyone had a fantastic time. We're already discussing the next race in which to participate!

Great job! I concur on how much more difficult it is to run with the stroller! I never realized how critical my arms were while running!!!
ReplyDeleteI think it rocks that you are running with a stroller! Great photos and great posts Jen, your daughter is so cute!
